I did it.
And I am proud of doing it.
I am proud of a lot of things today.
Pride is oozing from my skin.
I am proving to myself that ‘I can’t’ is not going to cut it anymore for me.
I can.
My new mantra.
I can.
I chose a 5K to run in this fall.
EPIC because this will be my first 5K. Ever.
And amazing because I just started running again after taking 13 years off.
Thanksgiving 2010.
My test date, so to speak.
Smoke the Turkey 5K.
Jeff and some of my fantastic running friends will be in the race with me.
After I had my first two knee surgeries in high school I stopped running.
Because I was on crutches.
And I could barely bend my leg most days, let alone walk any distance greater than the couch to the fridge.
I am scared.
I know I’ll have to watch out for my exercise induced asthma. And my very mobile kneecap.
But I know that I can do this!
During my 2.5 mile speed walk last night, I ran.
I ran a total of .75 miles.
Doesn’t seem like a lot does it?
After not running in 13 years it was a milestone.
A point where I proved to myself that this wasn’t going to kill me.
I am in it for the long haul now.
Three months until Thanksgiving…

Thank you Mary! I appreciate the support and vibes more than you know!
I’m so freaking proud of you Amanda! Running ANY distance is a milestone for me and always worth celebrating with a cold, frosty beer afterward.
