After 13 days of zero running whatsoever…I cranked out 20 miles this past week! I am pretty proud of myself! I didn’t push it and never felt overwhelmed or in pain.
I did also pick the coldest damn week of the year to kick my own ass…It was a cold little witch outside over the weekend.
I wanted to showcase how great Jeff is…looked at how beautifully the driveway has been snowblown! Fabulous work! I think I’ll keep ya.
This was our first ‘big’ snowfall of the year. Four whole inches. Typically this amount of snow is extremely common during the winter months but since we have been having days in the 50* range lately I guess it threw people off.
With that being said…it is common place in many cities that your sidewalks must be shoveled by a certain time or a certain number of hours after the snowfall. It is the same in Perrysburg, even though I really don’t know the exactities of laws but I’m sure you get 30 lashes if you don’t comply. I typically run in the street because I am really clumsy and trip over sidewalk cracks so the street is much safer for me. Except for the larger roads where running in the street means certain death and having my head run over like a squirrel’s, then I have to take to the sidewalks.
Mind you, this was a late afternoon run. There were already numerous hours to shovel…hell, even Jeff and I (the lazy team) got around to it.

Apparently I have become a crochity old woman when it comes to this whole sidewalk business…after running 6 miles and having 3 of them be through 4″ of snow on sidewalks it made me angry.
Ninja angry.
At one stretch of city park sidewalk I ran through a 1/2 mile straight of snow.
I think our own city parks should get their booties out there and clear me a path. Don’t they know who I am and when I run?
And literally when I was 5 steps from the end of this half mile snow hell they call a sidewalk I looked across the street and realized that I am a huge dumb fuck. Probably even the Queen Dumb Fuck of the day.
The other side of the street had a 100% clear sidewalk for me to run on.
I like to look back and pretend that I chose the snowy side to work some ass and thighs…I’m sure running in the snow is similar to running in the sand. Except when snow gets in your pants it just looks like you wet yourself instead of the staying power of sand. Sand is the beach equivalent to cockroaches I believe. It never goes away, at least snow melts.
But, to recap, I think I am totally overreacting about this but running in wet shoes is never run.

After that 6 miles of FUN I ran in the Donut Dash 5K prediction race on Sunday morning. I predicted 37:30 and I actually ran it in 36:??, so I wasn’t that far off I guess. Then I came home and ran 6 more miles so I could hit my long run of 9 miles for the day. Both of my weekend runs were in 12* wind chill type of weather.
And today it is 50* here, WTF weekend weather? Why do you hate me?
Next week I have 24 miles on the radar and I am so happy to start getting these long runs out of the way!
Happy Tuesday…

Impressive work!
I’ve only really ran in snow a few times and opted for non-busy residential roads. I just ran down the road itself as there wasn’t much traffic.
I love snow running…so peaceful!
good job getting your 20 in, sketchy sidewalks and all!
Thank you Lisa!
Such an awesome week of running for GOOD weather. To do it in snow? You are a rock star!
Thank you! If I waited for the good weather I would never run around here…
My entire neighborhood has pitted snow on all the sidewalks. The apartment complex tried to say that the residents are obligated to clear it (that’s legally unenforceable says my husband) and they refuse to deal with it. Maybe you need to rent Jeff out to your neighbors?
Yeah right! It is the complex’s job to do that….how ridiculous are they.
you made up for all those rest days by more than a few miles! i will always take bad snow cleanup over neighbors that leave a small enough layer that it makes a sheet of ice. those are always fun to navigate…*look i’m running! now i’m sliding! don’t mind me, i’m just practicing for my future career in figure skating! ok back to running!* love that i can recognize exactly where you were out and about…oh how i miss toledo sidewalks ( i don’t get that luxury here)
I totally agree on the sheet of ice thing!!
Slipping, or even having the feeling of slipping, makes my heart race so much that i think I am going to die…or slip into oncoming traffic.
You are so bad ass!!! I ran one time in weather like that (only 6-8 inches of snow). I came home knowing I was already sick… 2 days later at the dr with a serious bout of bronchitis. No, I don’t blame the weather but that whole thing made me a pansy when it comes to snow running. lol That and well here in E. TN we’ve been in the 60s lately. Lame lame weather. Anyway, you totally rock!!!
Luckily I started my running during the winter last year so I am used to it and love it…it is the heat that makes me want to murder people.
And thanks!
