Friday Wants for August 16

I really want to join a gym. I used to belong to one, St. Julian’s Fitness.

And it was amazing. Small, adult only, and had amazing facilities. But at $42 per month it was a bit more than I was looking to spend. So I was only there 6 months or so.

There is another gym in the same shopping center that I have had my eye on for a little while. Fitness 4 All.

If you pay month to month, this place is $25 per month. Or $20 per month with a one-year commitment. What I would like to do would be to join for the year, train like mad, then look like a rock star in a year.

Possible?  Sure.
The only thing holding me back is money. Ah, the root of all evil.
I would love to go in and join tomorrow, but the $20 per month is holding me back. Not because it is going to break the bank account – so I eat lunch out once less per month, and I stop buying stuff I don’t need at the grocery store, there is the $20 per month, easily. I just don’t want it to be a thing that I start and then quit because I have no follow-through. I don’t want it to go to waste.

Do you belong to a gym?
How often do you visit?

I love love love my gym. I started out just running on the treadmill for 30-40 mins several days a week, maybe mix in the elliptical, some weights. In January I decided to try out a Sunday morning Body Step class, I thought if I planned on going to class, I would take it easy on Saturday nights. I LOVED IT. I now walk in 6 (sometimes 7) days a week, right by the cardio equipment to the classroom. I take Step, Pump, Combat, Spin and Yoga classes. I’m totally hooked and in WAY better shape than when I was just running. The classes are great because they are all an hour long, I don’t have to think about what I’m doing, and I get a killer workout. If your gym has classes, it is TOTALLY worth the $20 a month.

I just called and the $20 per month one does NOT offer classes. Oh well.

I don’t belong to a gym. I toyed with the idea before I started running (2 years ago) and was leaning toward St. Julian’s because it’s close to home. In the end, I couldn’t justify paying to do stuff that I could do at home because we have all of those Beach Body video series. Still, I’ve only done P90X once, save for the last three days that we never completed, and I wasn’t satisfied. Long story short: No gym for me.

I am bad at doing videos at home, I let myself quit after 5 minutes. At least when I am out of the house I feel the need to complete my workout.

I feel you there. I wouldn’t have been able to do any of it if my husband (then fiance) weren’t on board as well. I tried last summer to do a couple of core workouts at home hosted by some creepy guy named Gunnar, but I gave up after 1.5 attempts. Also, Gunnar made me uncomfortable because he wore highwater pants.

Gunner wore highwater pants? Love this. I need to go and look for a picture of this now…
